I'm directing The Miracle Worker for Prime Stage in Pittsburgh.
Mayme Williams, the talented actress playing Viney, told me last Wednesday that she got a call from a relative in New York. Her uncle had been killed and her aunt, upon hearing the news had suffered a heart attack. Her uncle worked in the World Trade Center.
Of course, I released her from rehearsals. She traveled to NYC to care for her aunt (who has since recovered) and to help make arrangements for the burial of her uncle.
Upon her return last Saturday, she received a phone call - from her uncle! He had been mugged on the way to work that morning and had his wallet stolen. The body the authorities had identified as her uncle had been crushed beyond recognition and so they used the wallet as the basis for the ID. It was the mugger.
Her uncle had been injured - his leg broken - and had been lying unconscious in the hospital for 6 days.
Apparently there are some real miracles working.
